The 54 by 27 inch top spans a standard side-by-side pair and gives room to fold, sort and iron where the laundry already is, instead of carrying it to a bed. It holds up to 250 pounds, so a full basket and a stack of folded towels are no problem. The surface is P2 CARB-certified particle board, 0.59 inch thick, finished to shrug off heat, water and the odd detergent spill and to wipe clean in one pass. Non-slip pads underneath keep it from creeping during a spin cycle, side hooks take the lint roller and stain stick, and it ships as three splicing panels so it comes through a doorway and assembles in place.
